As220, Providence, Jen Raimondi

While Providence is not the center or the art world, there is water in the proverbial desert.
Works by Jen Raimondi on display this July at the AS220 project space are as interesting and worthwhile as anything you might happen upon in Chelsea.

As220, Providence, Jen Raimondi

Raimondi had several assemblages installed at the ass220 project space. Made from organic and inorganic materials have a microcosmic sensibility, but perhaps they are most reminisent of Victorian era dioramas.

"Burry Me Deep" Meredith Younger at AS200

The installation by Meredith Younger, "Bury Me Deep" comes off like a morbid Eastern European fairy tale in 3d. The installation is a combination of wood, ceramics, taxidermy and other materials. Meredith works as a print maker and ceramist. Children are often her choice of subject matter.
The dead crow maybe a not so subtle Poe
refrence?

Burry Me Deep

Mere setting up the installation.

Rila Monastery

Rila is a Greek Orthodox monastery that is located in the mountains outside Sofia Bulgaria. It is a UNESCO world heritage site, and for good reason. Almost all the wall surfaces are covered in elaborate frescos like this one depicting the dammed in Hell.

Rila Monastery

The view outside Rila looks out onto one of europes most pristine natural landscapes. The Trip from Sofia into the mountains is like going back in time, except for the cell phones!

Rila Monastery

At Rila nearly all the surfaces were covered in complex frescos like this one, which is undergoing restoration.

whats on my mantle now

Yes these are made by Dave Allyn, and Yes that is Madonna masterbating on the cup! It also says happy birthday on it. It's a fucking masterpiece by a fucking master. Lets tear down the Mona Lisa. Nobody likes that old thing anyway. We could stick this cup behind the plexiglass! Why not!

Whats on my mantle now

The flea market jesus was covered with bubble gum, in my bubble gum experimenting stage. It is a cool but very messy material. The doll is made by a Providence artist. Think his name is Tim Cody.

Whats on my mantle now

My favorite is the little bobble-head neon orange rabbit.

ERIK KROUTHÉN

An installation view of Erik's new work available at Galleri Sintra in Gothenburg Sweden.
If you are in town check it out. it is worth a look!

ERIK KROUTHÉN

Pottery is not my passion in life, but one can't help but appreciate a beautifully made object! We all know there is so much crap out there. Why not make some space for things that deserve the room. This Shino glazed teapot is just one example of the kind of bespoke pottery Erik makes.

Shawn Gilheeney

If Franz Kline only sketched architecture... Providence RI based painter Shawn Gilheeney manages to merge expressionism, urban landscape, and a touch of street art. The results are pretty powerful! This a limited addition print available now from ELWA Productions. For more info hit www.elwaproductions.com

complete destruction

This is paining by Shawn Gilheeney called "Complete Destruction". He is very much inspired by the urban decay so prevalent in the City of Providence where he lives. His works are a bit reminiscent of Anselm Kiefer I think. Like Kiefer one cannot guarantee that his paintings wont stain your wall with rust or ash. I think it's well worth the risk though!

Bibliodyssey

Biblodyssey published a wonderful masterpiece of a book last year through Fuel Design.
I would expect nothing less from fuel all their books are artworks. You can still pick this one up on amazon for a reasonable price I believe.

If you are at all interested in illustration, or looking for any kind of obscure graphic then Bibliodyssey is the blog for you. Most of the worlds archives are are publishing their forgotten treasures online, and lucky for us Bibliodyssey is there to mine the gems!
This is an etching for jewlers doing enamel work.
